DOE Reveals Summer Students To Schools

NY1 has an article about how many students will have to attend summer school.

City schools found out Monday which students will have to go to summer school.  The Department of Education estimated that nearly 33,000 third through eighth-grade students are being recommended to go this year.

That’s about 1,000 fewer than last year.

Since the state hasn’t yet decided what a failing grade will be, the Department of Education is guessing which students failed state tests based on preliminary data.

Last year, the DOE over-estimated and sent about 8,000 kids who didn’t need to go.

The number of students attending summer school is much higher in comparison to totals before the state raised the passing bar on exams in 2010.
